JCLT BOARD PREPARES FOR NEW YEAR

As Junction City Little Theater begins its new year, it will install four new board members at the July board meeting.  Mark Ediger, Carolyn Mayo, Ramona Printz-Smith, and Ellen Westerhaus will join the board.  Board members Margaret Kilpatrick and Deb Barnes were reelected for another term.
New board president, John Triplett, is excited about the additions. “These returning and new board members bring a wealth of music, theater, and community knowledge to our board. We lost a founding member of the theater this past year, Mona Kessinger, and her knowledge of past practice will be missed.  Scott Deppish, Patricia Dozier, and  Traciann Petite completed their terms of service to the board. We appreciate their service, and I hope that they will continue to be involved with JCLT in other capacities. ”
This is John’s third non-consecutive term as JCLT president.  He has also been president of the Junction City Education Association and the Junction City Arts Council.
Joining him on the Executive Board are Vice President, Mary Louis Stahl; Secretary, Sandy Wong; and Treasurer, Julie Stuck; and Past President, Margaret Kilpatrick.

Looking ahead, John believes that “Our greatest challenge will be to make a smooth transition to the Opera House.  It will be a learning year for the new Opera House manager and our board.  We have excellent directors for our upcoming season, so I am expecting a smooth transition.  The only difference the audience will see will be more comfortable seating for the productions.”
Plans are already well under way for the September Grand Opening production of The Music Man.  Auditions are scheduled for 7PM on July 27 and 28 at the Junction City Little Theater building on 18th Street.  Director Mary Louise Stahl reports that she has a huge cast list for actors of all ages and abilities.
Three other productions fill out the 2008-09 season.
In December, the Theater will present An Opera House Christmas. This is an elegant celebration of community talent.
Almost, Maine, a hilarious play about residents in a small town as they fall in and out of love will show Valentine’s Day weekend. The April play, Taffeta Memories,  is a musical revue of songs from girl bands of the 50s.  It will show on April 24, 25, and 26.
To prepare for the new year, the board has already formed committees, and several are meeting now to prepare a report for the July board meeting; however,  they will continue to meet throughout the year.
One of John’s goals is to get more community members involved on the committees.  “The citizens of Junction City and the surrounding area have an abundance of knowledge and experiences that can help the Little Theater expand and improve its service to the community.  We want to encourage anyone interested in the theater to become involved.”
